Week 5: Unit 2: Choice 2: Preparing for the Savior's Second Coming

  1. Review Mark 13:5, 9, 23, 33, 35, 37 and identify the words take heed and watch in each verse. List at least three things from this chapter that believers could watch for in order to be prepared to meet the Lord.
1. We must heed to the words of our Father in Heaven and not the words of others around us. Especially those of the words of Satan, that is there to lead us astray.
2. No matter what we must stand up as a believer before everyone around us no matter what the cost may be. Even if we are beaten or killed for it, it is worth it to die for the gospel of Jesus Christ and be a believer of him no matter what.
3. Take the time to pray daily because it is the little things that will keep up in tune with the spirit at all times by reading and praying daily. We do not know when Jesus Christ will come again but we must be prepared for when he does come and this requires a daily effort on our parts.
4. We must know the signs of the times so that we will be able to better know when Jesus Christ will come again and also so we can best be prepared for his coming.

  1. Explain in writing any other additional truths that are taught in the following references about how to prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
    • Doctrine and Covenants 87:8—We must always be standing in holy places because we do not know when Christ will come but we must be prepared for when he does come. This would mean that we are always in the right place at the right time no matter what.
    • Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:32 –The day of the Lord is coming whether we decide to be prepared for it or not.
    • Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:37 – If we choose to treasure and study the word of God then we shall not be deceived and instead we will be prepared when Christ comes again and we will stand as one of his elect sons and daughters.
    • Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:46–50—As we are ever watchful and doing what God asks us to do we will be prepared in the end when he comes. No matter what happens if we are prepared then God will provide for us.
    • Doctrine and Covenants 33:17 – No matter what the time is we must be ready for Jesus Christ to come again. It cannot be that once we see one of the signs of the times and recognize it that we then decide to repent. If we do this then there will not be enough time to repent and be the people we need to be in order to live with God again. Instead we must always be doing our best, no matter what to be ready for his coming.
    • Doctrine and Covenants 45:56–57 –We must always be in tune with the spirit to be able to know ways that we can improve at all times in our lives.
